To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Optician Specialist opportunity, you will have:
  • A high school or GED equivalent and a valid Optician’s License certified by the Ohio Vision Professionals Board. Quick question for you - click here
  • 2 years of job-relevant experience and/or training with proven ability to troubleshoot manufactured lenses.
  • Solid computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook; knowledge of or ability to learn optical lab, ideally VisionStar, and other software.

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn different progressive lens designs.
  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing principles is a plus.
In addition, you will need the following competencies and characteristics:

  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.

You will typically work a Monday - Friday day shift but should have the flexibility to work overtime on occasion to meet workflow demands.

Reporting to the General Manager, as Optician Specialist, you will work in an eyeglasses manufacturing environment and be responsible for evaluating lens and frame quality and the proper processing of the complete eyeglass. You will work in the Classic Optical lab and regularly perform Optician duties including setting up lenses in the LMS software, and troubleshooting problems with incoming orders. 

Some of your specific duties will include:
  • Work within the manufacturing operations to apply optical knowledge and lead others to learn and manage eyeglass orders.
  • Setting up new lenses in the LMS system according to lens type and style.  Quick question for you - click here
  • Troubleshooting and processing orders received with incomplete or incorrect information.
  • Providing quality analysis, identifying root causes, and suggesting solutions.
  • Providing processing oversight of special orders and unique case requests.
  • Using lensometers and other optical equipment to properly assess produced work.
  • Mentoring Optician apprentices working onsite as needed.
  • Working with Customer Service to solve customer issues, answer customer questions, and identify solutions for unique requests.
  • Interacting with all departments to provide needed optical information.
  • Participating in continuous improvement projects.
  • Observing all company policies, rules, and safety practices.
